During the XVIIIth century, most officers took the habit to use a special kind of sword when being of duty. With three sides blades, these swords were less encumbering, nevertheless usable, and were called "Court Swords". Our copy is a typical one.

The hilt is made of silvered metal, the blade has three sides, the scabbard is made of wood, covered in leather, with silvered brackets.
